Many thanks...
8_23post.jpg
...to everyone that has emailed me or left a kind and supportive comment.

Blue skies are indeed on the horizon and reading all your emails has really lifted my spirits....I had no idea there were that many people who read my blog!

I guess the lesson here is....LIFE happens, so be prepared, get a plan and focus on what's the most important....in my case, it is my son and his future.

See you next week....where I'll be back to my regular postings.

Thanks again!

(warning, this is gonna be a serious posting)

When it rains it pours...

8_18_post.jpg
....and it's pouring over here!

My husband of a little over 6 years has decided he wants a divorce.

I know it's shocking news, but not if you know my husband.

This will be his SECOND divorce in eight years.

Yes I should have seen the signs.....the flashing red lights from the beginning.  Where shall I begin:

1)  A quickie engagement and quickie elopement - red flag #1

2)  When asked about his financial stability just before we moved in together he answered "perfect" - red flag #2.  I later found out that he was on his SECOND round of financial disasters in 2 years following his first divorce.  It seems he couldn't resist gambling and strip clubs....and I mean almost one hundred thousand dollars worth.

3)  Aside from all that (if you can even get passed that), the most glaring difference it seems is my desire to live in the same place, build a home and raise a family, which includes another child.  My husband on the other hand has a stronger desire to persue jobs that allow him to travel the world, enjoy the "wine and dine" lifestyle and settle for a part-time family life which includes spending less time with his son.  This quest to travel the world in lieu of a stable family life has raised more than a few eyebrows on my side of the family especially when his "type of job" is not in anyway exclusive to areas outside of the U.S.

4)  It all came to a head a couple weeks ago when I found out (after the fact) that my husband decided to forgo a weekend with his family in lieu of spending a social weekend in New York City with his buddy just days before he was scheduled to be out of the country on business.  Instead of him being gone on business for only 5 days he elected to be away 9 days so he could party it up in NYC.  Of course I'm left doing damage control with my son.  This is not an isolated incident sadly.  My husband has been working global jobs since my son was born, some months being gone more days than he is home.
NOTE:  these global jobs are his personal choice and NOT the only jobs he could pursue.

The bottom line is my soon to be ex-husband has elected to pursue a global lifestyle which specifically takes him away from his family rather than pursue the MANY job opportunities available to him close to home.

As for my son and I, we are gonna be just fine.  We have a beautiful house in a beautiful neighborhood and I look forward to raising my son here in a stable and consistent manner.

On the mend
band_aids.jpg
I guess I should have told you where I was this last week, but I was hoping to only be gone a few days.

Turns out it took twice as long to recover than I thought it would.

Last Monday I went in for surgery and it's been slow going since then.

Trust me, having a shower everyday was a challenge and a luxury!

I feel almost back to normal with the exception of the lifting limitations my doctor has put on me ....No lifting my son for 7 more days!  That has been the most difficult part by far.

My surgery was one that I have gotten used to having every few years.  It's called Laparoscopic surgery to remove endometriosis tumors around my bladder and ovaries.  This was my third time and not quite as bad as the last time.

Because they have to insert a camera into your belly button to see what's going on, the gas they use to inflate your stomach takes FOREVER to leave your body and is by far the most painful part.  It's been almost 7 days now and I still have pockets of gas under my ribs.

My doctor tells me the surgery was again a success, so any pain left is worth it!

BTW - I was able to sneak out of the house yesterday and get my hair cut (again).....It's shorter and very sassy.  This time I promise to post a picture of it as soon as I feel like styling it.

Favorite restaurant dishes

I've been keeping a mental list of my favorite dishes from some of my favorite restaurants around the world and thought I would share a few with you.

It's one of those lists you always remember when traveling.  In fact, I always go to the same places and order the same dishes when I travel.

Like they say....If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and these dishes are certainly PERFECT in my book.

We have a proper railing!

8_7_post.jpg

Since moving in a couple months ago we've been pushing our luck not having a safety railing around our front porch or down to the street.

Our house is up on a hill from the street, and until three days ago we only had the old iron railing on the steps leading down to the street.

The railing was so badly corroded and wobbly that our UPS delivery guy almost fell carrying up a heavy piece of furniture last month.

I was also feeling the pressure of being on the corner of a very sassy street that leads to all the shops and boutique restaurants just 2 blocks away.

Who knows how many people have walked past our house on their way to a fancy dinner and thought...."That yard needs some serious help!"...."Let's call one of those makeover shows".

8_7_posta.jpg

Our newly installed railing around the porch and down to the street finally gives us some decent curb appeal !  It also allows us to fully use the front porch for entertaining or to just hang out with our son safely without worrying that he could fall.

I love the bright white.  It really brings the whole look together with the white columns.

Now, maybe one more trip to the Pottery Barn outlet store for some sale furniture to complete the porch and some fall landscaping for the front yard

We spent so much time and money making the backyard a beautiful entertaining and play area for my son that we quite honestly let the front yard go wild....YUK!

I have a "vision" of what I call a "terraced" yard.  Due to the steep elevation, having grass and maintaining it is really not practical so I thought...what about using railroad ties to create terraced beds down to the street on ether side of the steps?

Instead of trying to plants flowers or shrubs, creating groups of stone or rocks or even just bark is low maintenance and will keep the rain run-off from becoming a problem.

Searching
8_4_post.jpg

Along with the passing of my old computer (RIP), I failed to consider ALL the "idea" pictures that I've collected over the last few months (after I backed up my files) from the internet.

You know, the pictures we all collect from blogs you pass by or stumble upon on your way to somewhere else.

Being guilty of "CADD" - Crafty Attention Deficit Disorder, I tend to find great ideas on the internet, save the picture under my "ideas" folder and then forget about them until all of a sudden the mood strikes me.

That happened to me this morning.

I'm just about finished with my son's pirate sweater and then I remembered, those cute knitted pants I saw a few months ago would be perfect to make with my left over yarn.  Only problem was....where did I see that picture?

After about an hour of searching for a needle in a haystack, I came up empty.

So it looks like I will have to modify the pattern in Last Minute Knitted Gifts.  Who knows my own version of it might look even better!

I'll post pics of the finished sweater this week...it's so darn cute!
